LAUREL - The Hartington-Newcastle cross country teams made the quick trip south on Sept. 11 to compete in the Laurel-Concord-Coleridge Invitational at Cedar View Country Club.
The Lady Bears won the girls’ division of the race posting a team score of 25, Ponca was second with 35 and Homer was third at 43.
Ponca’s Ava Brennan was the top girl crossing the finish line in 20-minutes, 43.9-seconds with Homer’s Lilly Harris second in 21:26.60.
Hartington-Newcastle’s Isabel Rolfes brought home some hardware, using a time of 23:46.80 to place 11th overall. Breah Steffen was 33rd in the 5,000-meter course.
Homer won the boys’ division with a 23, LCC was second with 56 and Winnebago third with 58. Hartington-Newcastle was fourth with a score of 63.
Ponca also had the boys’ champion with Gannon Pfister breaking the tape in 18:12.42 with Micah Cuevas of Newman Grove/St. Edward and Aayden Harris of Homer in a virtual tie for second at 18:29.60.
Isaac Santiago was the top Wildcat finisher, placing ninth in 19:57.20 to bring home a medal. Jeffrey Heine was just out of the medals finishing 18th, Aidan Anderson was 23rd, Donnie Schulte was 26th and Kayden Gustman was 52nd.
The ‘Cats and Lady ‘Cats are set to run at the Scotus Central Catholic Invitational on Sept. 18 in Columbus.
