HOWELLS — After opening the season with six straight wins, the Wynot Lady Blue Devils ran into Elgin Public/Pope John at the Howells-Dodge Round Robin on Sept. 13 and dropped their first match of the year, 25-10, 20-25, 22-25.
Wynot dominated the opening set, but the Wolfpack responded by taking control in sets two and three.
“We simply got pushed by a good EP/PJ team,” Wynot coach Tristan Wieseler said. “It was a good test for us early in the year, and we found some things we need to work on.”
Haley Wieseler posted a doubledouble with 18 set assists and 10 digs and also tallied five blocks. Taylor Pinkelman had six kills, Kenna Oligmueller added five, and Mya Pinkelman finished with four.
The Lady Blue Devils regrouped later in the day, defeating Howells-Dodge 17-25, 25-21, 25-18, and outlasting Bancroft-Rosalie 26-24, 19-25, 25-21.
“I’m proud of the girls for how they pushed through the second and third matches,” Wieseler said. “We were able to come away with two wins against a couple of quality teams.”
On Sept. 11, Wynot traveled to Creighton and swept the Lady Bulldogs 25-14, 25-22, 25-21 to improve to 6-0 at the time. Oligmueller paced the attack with 12 kills, while Jordan Foxhoven added seven. Wieseler handed out 32 assists.
Earlier in the season, Wynot hosted a triangular on Sept. 4, defeating Bloomfield 25-16, 25-17 and Crofton 25-14, 25-20. On Sept. 2, Wynot swept Boyd County 25-6, 25-19, 25-21.
In that match, Oligmueller notched a double-double with 10 kills and 12 digs and added three aces.
