STUART - The Stuart Lady Broncos swept the Randolph Lady Cardinals in straight sets on Sept. 2, but each set went down to the wire before the Lady Cards fell.
“We played some great volleyball all night, we just couldn’t quite finish,” said Randolph coach Lyndsee English. “We kind of played a little tight when we got big leads in the first and second sets.”
In fact, the first set needed extra points before Stuart finally turned away Randolph.
The first set went 27-25, the second 25-22 and the third was 25-19. Mabel Ngebeh and Brooke Meier paced the Lady Redbirds’ attack. Ngebeh slammed 10 winners while Meier tipped up 18 assists. Meier added eight digs and an ace serve while Ngebeh completed her night with four ace serves, nine digs and 19 successful passes off of Stuart serves.
Abbey Backer had five kills, Jenna Guenther and Alexis Backhaus added three kills each while Backhaus had a couple of ace serve s; Kuchta, Addyson Wattier and Delayne Thelen joined Meier with one ace each.
“Once we get over that mental block, and get that win, hopefully it’ll become easier to finish those games,” said English.
Randolph was set to take on Hartington-Newcastle on Sept. 8 and Winnebago on Sept. 9 in Randolph before traveling to Osmond for a triangular with the Lady Tigers and Tri County Northeast on Sept. 11.
The Lady Cardinals will host Madison and Bloomfield for a triangular on Sept. 15.
