Lady Bears stretch win streak to four

Lady Bears are off and running on the court

TILDEN - The Laurel-Concord-Coleridge Lady Bear volleyball team is off and running for the young season, pushing their record to 4-0 with a pair of wins over the past week.

In fact, the Lady Bears haven’t lost a set in 2025 after sweeping Elkhorn Valley on the road 25-21, 25-21 and 25-18 on Sept. 4 and Ponca 25-18, 25-16 and 25-17 in a match played in Laurel on Sept. 2.

Against the Lady Falcons, LCC was led by Rena Rasmussen, Carlie Kvols, Kaida Eriksen and Tyler Recob.

Rasmussen, Kvols and Eriksen led the Lady Bear attack while Recob did her damage in the back row.

Rasmussen rifled 16 kills to the other side of the net and Eriksen added 13. Kvols got the offense going with 35 set assists.

Recob dug up 19 and successfully passed nine serves. Eriksen led the team with 18 good passes. Hattie Mc-Corkindale added 13 digs and eight good service receptions, Kvols just missed a double-double with nine digs.

Rasmussen hit a double-double, adding 16 digs to her 16 kill evening.

Against Ponca, the Lady Indians scored four straight points to erase a big Laurel-Concord-Coleridge lead in the first set.

The run put Ponca within two points at 11-9 and the teams traded points to make it 12-10.

Rasmussen hammered one of her team-high 13 winners cross-court to make it 13-10, but the Lady Indians scored on a kill.

Rasmussen smashed back-to-back winners then Ponca was called for being in the net and suddenly, the Lady Bears were back on top, 16-11.

Taelynn Settje scored on a tip-kill to make it 17-12 and after a Ponca point, the Lady Indians committed a service error and Kaida Eriksen maneuvered a directional winner to make it 19-13.

Ponca scored on a kill, an ace serve and an LCC hitting error, but a Rasmussen kill off of the Ponca block went out of bounds and the score was 22-16.

Recob served an ace to get the Lady Bears to set-point, 24-18 then Rasmussen finished the set with a kill down the line and Laurel-Concord-Coleridge took the first set by the 25-18 final score.

The Lady Bears jumped out early in the second set, going on a 9-2 run after the score was tied 1-1 to take a 10-3 lead then held on for the 25-16 win to take control of the match, going up two sets to none.

LCC finished the match with the sweep in the 25-17 final set to earn the sweep.

The Lady Bears will play in the Wakefield Invitational Sept. 11 and Sept 13.
