HARTINGTON — The Hartington City Council held a quick meeting Monday to take care of some routine business.
Two council members - Roman Sudbeck and Cody Christensen - were absent so Mayor Mark Becker asked council members Chris Bartling and Colin Kathol to table action on a proposed revision to the city’s ordinance on fowl and other animals.
After several months on the city agenda, that issue is expected to be resolved at the next City Council meeting.
The Council did approve two building permits and a sign permit, though.
The council approved a sign permit for Casey’s General Stores which is planning to replace all of its signs at its Highway 57 location.
The Council also reviewed and approved building permits for Herb Bose and Jean Wiebelhaus.
Bose plans to build a garage at his 301 N. Portland Avenue home.
Wiebelhaus plans to build a new house at 105 North Madison Avenue where the Terry Nelson home stood until it was destroyed by fire last February. The house was then razed.
Council members also recently learned the old City Fire Hall was purchased by Gerald Wiedenfeld for $315,387.
The proceeds from the sale are to be split between the city and the Hartington Rural Fire Board.
It was also reported Monday that benches have been set up at the pickleball court at East Park.
Councilman Bartling also noted the parking lot lights at the Hartington Community Complex will need to be replaced soon. They have begun turning purple and are no longer providing as much light as they should.
Bartling said new lights should have about a 10 year lifespan. He said once the city buys the lights, NPPD would install them at no charge.
The next City Council meeting will be held at 5 p.m. Sept. 22 at City Hall. The city budget hearing is also slated for that time.
