HARTINGTON - Hartington-Newcastle dropped a match on the road to Homer on Sept. 2 then lost two out of three in a quadrangular the Lady Wildcats hosted on Sept. 6 HNS dropped the final two matches in the quad to Omaha Nation 25-19 and 25-23 then to St.
Mary’s in the final match of the day, 25-16 and 31-29.
In the first match of the day, the Lady Wildcats defeated Osmond 2624 and 25-18.
The match with St. Mary’s went right down to the wire and then some as it took 10 extra points to decide the outcome of the second set.
Ella Eickhoff was a thorn in the Lady Cardinals’ side slamming 11 winners in the match, Vayda Lippert added five.
Lainey Morten tipped up a dozen set assists, Lippert added 10.
Katelyn Wubben successfully passed 10 service receptions and Justyce Sohl had 10 digs.
In the loss to Omaha Nation, Morten rifled four ace serves in the contest, Eickhoff had six kills, Lippert hit four winners and Nora Lange registered nine digs, Sohl added seven.
In the win over the Lady Tigers, the first set went a couple of extra points before the Lady ‘Cats righted the ship and took the second set by the 25-18 final score to sweep the match.
Eickhoff and Lippert had nine and eight winners respectively, Morten recorded 16 set assists.
Karissa Bruning added six kills, Lippert had three service aces and Sohl, Morten and Bruning each had an ace serve.
Sohl dug up seven attempted kills.
Hartington-Newcastle took to the road on Sept. 2 to take on the Homer Lady Knights.
Homer came out firing on all cylinders taking the opening set of the best-of-five match 25-7 before the Lady Wildcats made the final two sets a little closer before falling by the 25-19 and 25-18 scores in sets two and three.
The HNS attack was spread out with Eickhoff hitting four winners, Morten and Lippert had three each and Sohl added two.
Lange, Ziva Stratman and Bruning each chipped in with one.
Lange rifled three ace serves and recorded nine digs, Morten and Lippert combined for 10 set assists.
The Lady Wildcats were set to host Randolph on Sept. 8 and will host Neligh-Oakdale on Sept. 11.
HNS will travel to Atkinson Sept. 13 for the GNAC round-robin before traveling to Summerland on Sept. 16.
