Wynot racks up big win over Creighton

CREIGHTON — Friday’s game opened with an exchange of punts.

It didn’t take long for the offenses to take off, though.

On Creighton’s second possession they would put together a scoring march. A 24 yard first down run by Ethan Kuhlman set up a 3 yard touchdown toss from Ethan Kuhl to Ethan Kuhlman. The PAT was no good as the Bulldogs took the early 6-0 lead.

Wynot would answer quickly when Kotner Koch took the kickoff and turned up the right side for a 64-yard kickoff return. Devin Brummer ran in the PAT as the Blue Devils held the 8-6 advantage.

Creighton’s chances in this one took a blow when their starting running back went down with a knee injury on their next possession.

As the first quarter wound down Wynot’s Devin Brummer would weave through the Bulldog defense for a 35-yard touchdown run. Brummer also ran in the PAT and the Blue Devils lead was 16-6 at the end of the first quarter.

Creighton opened the second quarter with a fumble deep in their own territory. Kotner Koch recovered the ball at the 17 yard line. Wynot made them pay for the mistake as Brummer found Braylon Hans in the seam for the seven-yard touchdown pass. The PAT pass was incomplete but the Blue Devils lead had grown to 22-6.

Creighton’s offense was struggling on their next offensive set and a Parker Schmidt sack gave the Blue Devils the ball right back.

Wynot got a quick score on a sevenyard touchdown pass to Killian Steinhaus. The PAT pass was incomplete making the score 28-6.

There would be a lot of excitement in the final two minutes of the half.

First Creighton’s Ethan Kuhl would find Coen Horstmann on a 45 pass up the left side line. That set up a 2 yard plunge by Kuhl for a Bulldog score. The PAT run was stuffed making the score 28-12. After a short kick by the Bulldogs the Blue Devils had good field possession. Wynot cashed in quickly as Kotner Koch would haul in a 40 yard touchdown pass. The PAT pass made it 36-12. A Braylon Hans interception and his return to the Bulldogs 10 yard line put the Blue Devils in scoring position again. Lane Heimes powered up the middle for the quick score. Braylon Hans caught the PAT to increase Wynot’s lead to 44-12 at intermission.

Creighton was finding some success through the air. Kuhl would unleash a 54 yard bomb to Calvin Wilmens for a Bulldog score. The PAT was stopped making the score 44-18.

Killian Steinhaus played a big part in the Blue Devils answering score making three catches in the drive. The final reception being a two yard scoring grab. Steinhaus also caught the PAT pass to up Wynot’s score to 52-18.

Coach Steve Heimes would sprinkle in his reserves. Braxton Oligmueller took over at quarterback and would race around the right side for a 36 yard touchdown. Oligmueller then hit Cash Lenzen for the PAT to push Wynot’s lead to 60-18.

Creighton would get a late score on an 18 yard touchdown catch by Jackson Wood. The PAT run was good. The Blue Devils would run out the clock and earn the 60-28 win. Wynot travels to Humphrey to take on top-rated Archangels Catholic next Friday.
