1965: Randolph school enrollment soars to a new record high

Sept. 1, 1960

RANDOLPH — A total of 346 students have enrolled as classes for the 1960-61 term got underway this week at St. Frances School as reported by Sister M. Finbarr, principal. Supt. Fred Pokorney has announced that 267 students have enrolled for the fall term at the Randolph Public School.

RANDOLPH — Sky Richard Wurdinger received his discharge from the U.S. Navy at Long Beach, Calif. Friday and returned to the home of his parents, Mr. and Mrs. John Wurdinger. During his three years of duty in the navy he spent one year at Adak, Alaska.

RANDOLPH — Fred Rokahr left by plane Monday for Dallas, to see the new line of John Deere tractors. Sixteen U.S. and Canadian airlines cooperated in airlifting the 4500 dealers to Dallas.

Sept. 2, 1965

RANDOLPH — Total enrollment at Randolph’s two schools soared to a new high of 749 students as classes begin this week. Enrollment at the two schools is nearly identical with 375 at the Randolph Public School and 374 at St. Frances Catholic School.

RANDOLPH — A squad of 33 players, including 12 lettermen have reported for football practice under head coach Ron Heermann, who is being assisted by Richard Muma. Letterman include Terry Chapman, Kenneth Eberhardt, Lew Mueller, Dallas Schmitt, Gene Van Auker and Doug Witte, seniors; Junior Dowling, Bradley Lenhoff, Roger Pentico, Everett Rokahr, Dwaine Uttecht, Greg Witte, juniors.

Sept. 2, 1965

RANDOLPH — Gary Rosenbach went to Lincoln Thursday and from there he went to Florida, where he boarded a jet plane for the Bahama Islands to attend a three-day convention as a delegate from his fraternity, the Delta Sigma Pi.

Sept. 2, 1965

RANDOLPH —Richard Huwaldt, son of Mr. and Mrs. Elmer Huwaldt, will attend the University of Nebraska on a Regents Scholarship. He is a 1965 graduate of Randolph High School.

Aug. 27, 1970

RANDOLPH — John R. (Rick) Kelsch has completed his training at Delta Airlines at Atlanta, and is now assigned to the airline’s Dallas pilot base as a second officer. The Randolph grad served four years in the U.S. Navy prior to joining Delta. He is the son of Mr. and Mrs. John Kelsch.

Aug. 27, 1970

RANDOLPH — Randolph High football squad under Coach Jim Blessen have 66 reporting for practice. Lettermen include seniors, Neil Heese, Dan Dowling, Irvin Wattier, Virgil Young, Rick Lienemann, Mark Meyer; juniors, Rod Berner, Brad Witte, Bruce Sellon, Dave Lewon; sophomores, Dave Leiting and Tim Witte. Coach Blessen’s assistants are George Whitney and Dean Miller.
