2015: Schroeder to be honored by Omaha Archdiocese for her teaching excellence

HARTINGTON — Tragedy struck here Friday when two vehicles collided on Highway 12 near Fordyce.

A vehicle driven by Mollie Schieffer, Fordyce, was east-bound when it crossed the center line and collided head-on with a vehicle driven by Bradley Schumacher, Crofton.

The Cedar County Sheriff’s Office responded to the accident at 3:13 p.m. three miles west of the junction of Highways 12 and 57, a release said.

Schieffer, 22, and Schumacher, 63, were pronounced dead at the scene. Schieffer was a 2011 Cedar Catholic graduate and the daughter of Marlen and Patricia Schieffer, Fordyce.

OMAHA — Sonya Schroeder, a teacher at East Catholic Elementary School, Bow Valley, will be one of several educators honored when the Archdiocese of Omaha uses its most popular annual event to raise scholarship funds for lowincome students to attend Catholic schools.

The 38th Annual Archbishop’s Dinner for Education will take place at the Embassy Suites, La Vista, Sept. 17. The dinner recognizes teachers and administrators in the Catholic school system. Nearly 1,000 people attend the dinner each year.
