Prepare to donate blood for Breast Cancer Awareness Month

JOHNSTON, Iowa — This October, breast cancer awareness month, LifeServe Blood Center is encouraging individuals to schedule an appointment to donate blood and make a difference in the life of someone facing this diagnosis. Breast cancer affects 1 in 8 women, and many patients undergoing chemotherapy, surgery, and other treatments rely on blood transfusions to regain strength, boost their immune systems, and prevent excessive bleeding.

The following are the October dates for area blood drives:

• Coleridge Community Blood Drive is Oct. 22, from 12-3:30 p.m., at 111 S. Main St.

• Hartington Community Blood Drive, Oct. 16, from 12:30-6 p.m., at 206 E. Main Street.

• Randolph High School and Community Blood Drive, Oct. 22, from 12-5:30 p.m., at 207 N. Pierce Street.

• Wynot High School and Community Blood Drive, is Oct. 24, from 10 a.m.-2:30 p.m., at 709 St. James Avenue.

Your blood donation could help save a life and give a breast cancer patient the strength to continue their fight. Schedule your lifesaving appointment by visiting lifeservebloodcenter.org or by calling 800.287.4903.

At the last Coleridge community blood drive, members of the community once again stepped up in August, showing that compassion and action go hand in hand.

At the latest Coleridge Community Blood Drive, 15 units of blood were collected from 11 donors - enough to support up to 45 patients in local hospitals.

Two donors hit a major milestones at this drive: Mark Korth has donated seven gallons of blood, and Valerie Ebberson has donated eight gallons of blood.

The Village of Coleridge hosted this event at the community building.

The Fordyce Community Blood Drive is scheduled for 3:30-6 p.m., Sept. 22, in the Fordyce Fire Hall.
