HARTINGTON - After getting swept on the road at Crofton to open the 2025 volleyball season, the Hartington-Newcastle Lady Wildcats returned home to take one out of three matches in quadrangular action in Hartington on Aug. 30.
Howells-Dodge defeated the Lady Wildcats 25-15 and 25-19 in the final game of the quadrangular; Winside defeated the Lady ‘Cats, 25-13 and 25-9 and HNS took care of Randolph in its first match of the day, 25-21 and 25-9.
Against the Lady Jaguars, Vayda Lippert and Karissa Bruning paced the HNS attack with four kills each, Nora Lange rifled a couple of winners.
Lainey Morten tipped up seven assists, Lippert recorded a couple of ace serves while Bruning, Ella Eickhoff and Morten each registered an ace.
Lippert had seven digs and Eickhoff had five.
Nora Lange successfully returned 10 serves.
In the Winside loss, Lippert had three winners, while Eickhoff and Bruning had two apiece.
Lange recorded 11 digs defensively.
In the win over the Lady Cardinals, the Lady Cats made some hay at the service line where the team served 13 aces in the match.
Morten fired four ace serves, Lippert three while Eickhoff, Lange and Bruning each had a pair.
Lippert had three kills. Hartington-Newcastle was set to travel to Homer Sept. 2 for a match with the Lady Knights.
The Lady Wildcats will host another quadrangular on Sept. 6 then host Randolph Sept. 8.
