HARTINGTON - The Hartington-Newcastle boys and girls cross country teams hosted their own invitational Aug. 29 at the Hartington Golf Club with the Wildcats finishing fourth in the team race and the Lady Wildcats didn’t have enough runners to score the entire team, but still brought home some hardware.
Homer won both divisions of the invite, with the Knights outrunning Creighton 30-38 and the Lady Knights grabbing the title with 20 points and Laurel-Concord-Coleridge second 13 points behind them.
LCC was third in the boys with 53 followed by the ‘Cats with 65.
Isaac Santiago was the top HNS runner in the boys race placing seventh with a time of 19-minutes, 48.91 seconds.
“It’s always nice to compete on your home course,” said Hartington-Newcastle coach, Tanner Fischer.
Ponca’s Gannon Pfister was the medalist in the boys race crossing the finish line with a time of 18:39.38. Aayden Harris of Homer was second in 18:50.48.
Aidan Anderson was the next Wildcat to cross the finish line, placing three spots out of the hardware in 18th with a time of 21:38.09.
Jeffrey Heine placed 23rd in 22:11.58 for Hartington-Newcastle, Donnie Schulte was 30th in 22:42.83 and Kayden Gustman was 57th with a time of 27:55.41.
Ava Brennan from Ponca was the girls champion, running the 5,000-meter course in 20:56.67, Lilly Harris of Homer was second in 21:23.02.
Isabel Rolfes was the first Lady Wildcat to finish, she used her time of 23:49.47 to earn a 12th-place medal.
Breah Steffen, the only teammate of Rolfes running on the day finished 39th with a time of 28:15.06.
“A huge thank you goes out to the Hartington Golf Club for allowing us to run out there,” said Fischer. “We receive many compliments on the beautiful course.”
The ‘Cats and Lady ‘Cats will return to action Sept. 4 at Indian Trails Country Club just outside of Beemer before heading to Cedar View Country Club in Laurel for the Laurel-Concord-Coleridge Invitational on Sept. 11.
