2015: Governor to speak at 81-20 Open House

Aug. 23, 2015

RANDOLPH — Gov. Pete Rickets will be on hand here next week for an open house at the CVA 81-20 Grain Terminal.

The open house will run from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m., Aug. 26.

Gov. Ricketts will speak shortly after 11 a.m. and other invited dignitaries will be on hand to welcome the facility to northeast Nebraska.

The facility is among the newest of Central Valley Ag ventures in the State located on the 150-acre site. At the time of construction, 3.5 million bushels of storage were planned, with room to add another 1.5 million bushels of storage in the future.

Located at the intersection of highways 81 and 20, the Randolph Hub is also served by the BNSF railway for direct shipping options.

Visitors are invited to drive to the main entrance where workers will direct traffic.

Trolley tours on Wednesday will feature all aspects of the facility including:

• Warehouse and shop

• Liquid fertilizer load-out

• Grain unloading pit/ rail loadout/ dryer

• Dry fertilizer load-out and storage The 81/20 facilities were a long time in the planning stages, before construction began in late 2013.

The cold 2013-14 winter weather and high winds in the spring caused delays for the 81/20 project. About 23 days were lost due to the cold and replacement of equipment due to wind damage. Only 10 lost days were budgeted.

Construction of CVA’s agronomy division at 81/20 lagged behind the most. Deep frost slowed the progress.

From April 8-April 13, 2014, 120foot tall grain storage tanks were built. Crews made up of 80 people worked in two shifts, nonstop at that time.

With a continuous concrete pour, the storage tanks grew at a rate of one inch every three minutes.

Next, a dry building was finished, and liquid fertilizer tanks erected.

At the time of construction, Joel Endorf with ADM said CVA and ADM set a goal to have basic facilities erected at the site by the fall in order to take grain and soybeans from the 2014 harvest.

Endorf along with other CVA representatives, met with producers April 15 at an open meeting at Jerry’s Hilltop.

There, he announced forward contracting for grain is available for 81/20 Grain LLC.
