HARTINGTON — For the 10th straight year, the Haritngton-Newcastle boys’ track team brought home a plaque from the district track meet.
This time, though, they had to settle for the runnerup trophy.
After nine years as district champions, the Wildcats came up short as Osmond’s depth, particularly in the distance events, helped the Tigers edge Hartington-Newcastle by 4 1/2 points to claim the D-3 district crown on a sunny Friday afternoon at Hartington Community Complex.
The District title wasn’t decided until late in the day.
The Wildcats didn’t give up the district crown without a battle, led by senior Lincoln McPhillips, who was simply dominant in the jumps and 100-meter dash, finishing with four victories.
