Wynot drops first games

WYNOT — The Wynot Expos suffered their first setbacks of the 2008 season last week,
Wynot is now 16-2 on the year.
The Expos fell 11-1 at Freeman June 10, but bounced back to beat Tabor 13-1 here Thursday.
The Expos then pounded Newcastle 11-1 Saturday before falling to Irene in a thrilling extra-inning affair.
Irene came from behind to top Wynot 7-6 in 10 innings. The Cardinals picked up the win in the final frame when Adam Gale doubled, then came home on a George Sees single, beating Drew Lawrence’s tag at the plate to score the winning run. Wynot’s offense was paced by Shawn Koch, who went 2-3 at the plate. Lance Heine also fared well, connecting on 2-4 with one run.

Wynot hosted Newcastle Saturday, pounding out nine hits to score 11 runs for the win.
Kyle Wiepen fared well at the plate in the contest, connecting on 2-3 at the plate and scoring two runs. Scott Heimes and Brett Wiebelhaus also had solid performances, both hitting 2-4 with two runs each.
Chase Rolfes earned the win for Wynot, striking out five in eight innings of work.

The Expos were on fire against South Central League foe Tabor Thursday.
The Expos took control in the third inning, posting seven runs and then coasted to the 13-1 win over the Bluebirds in a game shortened to seven innings.

Wynot got things going with three first-inning runs. Lance Heine walked to get things started, Lee Heimes then singled to move him over. A Scott Heimes walked loaeded the bases and Cliff Kephart drove in two with a single. Heimes then came home on a Shawn Koch single to round out the scoring.
Tabor plated one in the second, but the Expos broke it open with seven runs in the third.
Lee Heimes powered the offense by clearing the bases with a grand slam.
Heimes and Shawn Cook each had three hits, while Matt Hames, Clif Kephart and Lance Heine each added two hits.
Eric Hames earned the win on the mound for the Expos, allowing one run on five hits in seven innings.
Tabor’s Brandon Tycz had two singles to lead the Bluebirds.

FREEMAN — Wynot’s pitching and offense struggled against Freeman here June 10.
Garrett Gross and Brett Scherschligt had Wynot’s number all night, combining for six hits, three home runs and nine RBI.

Lee Heimes put up a solo shot in the second inning for Wynot’s lone run on the night.
Shawn Koch had Wynot’s only other hit of the night.

Scherschligt had two home runs and a single, driving in five runs. Gross had a home run, double and a single, driving in four.
Brett Wiebelhaus took the loss for Wynot, while Jason Kramp earned the complete game win for Freeman.

Wynot will be in action again Thursday when they host Scotland. Yankton comes to Wynot on Sunday. Wynot travels to Tea on June 26.
