WYNOT — The Wynot Blue Devils kept up their winning ways going strong last week with two more victories.
On Tuesday Wynot picked up another Lewis and Clark Conference win over the Allen Eagles.
Wynot jumped out to a 14-6 first-quarter margin and then exploded for 24 second-quarter points to put some distance between themselves and the Eagles and finished the visitors off 67-38.

Wynot would have four players hit double figures and another one just miss as they got balanced scoring. Nathan Wieseler lead the way with 15 points, Austin Wieseler and brother Davis Wieseler each had 12 point efforts while Chris Schmidt finished with 11 points and lead the team with seven rebounds. Jackson Sudbeck just missed but contributed with nine points.
Allen got double figures from Jake Stewart and Zach Crom with 10 points each.
Early on the Eagles matched up well against the taller Blue Devils. Allen got three points each from Jake Stewart and Austin Connot. Four points each from Chris Schmidt and Austin Wieseler late in the quarter boosted Wynot to a 14-6 lead.
Wynot would explode in the second quarter behind seven points from Nathan Wieseler and six points from Austin Wieseler, along with four points each from Davis Wieseler and Jackson Sudbeck. The 24-point outbreak gave Wynot a big 38-16 halftime advantage.
Allen got three-pointers from Zach Crom and Brandon Sullivan early in the third quarter. Wynot countered with four points each from Chris Schmidt and Nathan Wieseler as they held a 52-28 lead.
In the final quarter Allen got a three pointer from Zach Crom and a conventional three points from Jake Stewart but could not gain ground as Wynot got five points from Davis Wieseler and balanced scoring to take the 67-38 win.
For the Raiders, Alec Barta had a good second half as he scored all 15 of his points after the break. Kyle Kocmick had all but two of his 12 points in the first half to lead the Raiders in the early going.
Chris Schmidt took on most of the scoring load in the early part of the first quarter as he exploded for 10 points.
The Blue Devils also got four points each from Austin Wieseler, Nathan Wieseler and Koby Sudbeck as well as a three-pointer from Brady Stratman as they bolted to a 29-6 first quarter lead.

HARTINGTON — William Kelly, rural Dixon, was found guilty of sexual assault and incest Monday.
Tears were shed and groans were heard in the courtroom as District Judge Paul J. Vaughan read the jury’s verdict.
The trial had lasted over four days on the second floor of the Cedar County Courthouse.
Passionate cries of “no, no – how can they do this,” were heard from family members and those who supported Kelly and sounds of weeping and crying gradually became louder after the guilty verdict was heard.
Others were crying quietly – feeling relief at the outcome and believing justice had been done.

The jury trial opened at 9 a.m., Dec. 14. Closing statements were given Dec 17.
The jury then began deliberating Saturday afternoon and Monday morning before finding Kelly guilty of two counts each of first-degree sexual assault and incest.
Judge Vaughan set the sentencing date for Kelly of Feb. 13, 2012.
District Judge Robert Ensz had accepted Kelly’s “not guilty” plea on the sexual assault charges April 11, 2011.
At that time Ensz had told Kelly he could be imprisoned for 1-50 years if found guilty on the Class II Felonies of sexual assault and for 1-20 years for the Class III Felonies of incest. Kelly was also informed he would be required to register as a sex offender if found guilty.
The 37-year-old Cedar County man had been arrested on sexual assault charges in February 2011.
Kelly has been held in the Cedar County Jail since his arrest on a $50,000 bond – 10 percent of $500,000.

Court documents alleged the victim had been sexually assaulted several times while in the states of Iowa and Nebraska.
The victim had undergone a medical examination at the Mercy Medical Center Child Advocacy Center, Sioux City, as part of the investigation, which was conducted by a Nebraska State Patrol Investigator and an Iowa Police Detective.

The medical exam revealed the teen could have been sexually assaulted from the age of five or six into her teen years.

HARTINGTON — Cedar County Commissioners agreed Dec. 13 to put their support behind the livestock producers in Cedar County and across the state.
After voting to accept a Farm Bureau Resolution in an effort to support the livestock and poultry farmers in Nebraska each board member placed his signature on the document.
The Resolution takes a stand against the extreme animal rights agenda of the Humane Society of the United States that is based in Washington, D.C.
The HSUS is not affiliated with local humane societies.

According to the Resolution the HSUS opposes hunting, fishing, rodeos and circuses and equates meat consumption to animal abuse advocating for “reducing, refining and replacing” meat in individual diets.
According to the Resolution, in 2010 the Neb. Legislature passed, with Gov. Dave Heineman’s signature, the Livestock Animal Welfare Act which updated standards for the humane treatment of farm animals.
Cedar County Commissioners resolve to oppose any organization or group that would adversely affect the ability of Nebraska producers to raise livestock and poultry – thereby harming Nebraska’s economy and raising food costs to consumers.
In other action, board members voted to change the current indigent burial rate from $1,000 to $1,300 along with making cremation mandatory for those burials.
Before making the decision board members looked at the amounts other counties pay for burials.
The county recently helped with funds for a burial according to County Clerk Dave Dowling.
Assessor Don Hoesing will be sending letters out to people who own land along the river. An aerial map which can be used to identify any land that was lost due to the Missouri River flood waters will be included with the letter.
“If they want to, they can come in and we will work with them on this,” Hoesing said. “We have had only one call on this so far.”
Zoning Administrator Dave Sudbeck met with board members.
Two conditional use permits will be coming up and some changes may have to be made on land near the river according to Sudbeck.
Several cabins are located on the land that is east of Sportsman’s.
“The land might be sold,” Sudbeck said.
Zoning regulations could require having a survey done and each parcel may have to include an acre of land according to Sudbeck.
Board members received an update on the Courthouse geothermal heating and cooling system during a conference call with Lonnie Weidner, Merit Mechanical, Inc.
Board members had concerns with the geothermal well field which involves digging 40 holes – 300 ft. deep – behind the Courthouse.
Commissioner Dave McGregor said there was some concern on the voids and the grouting that is being done.
“It is being done correctly – the voids are getting filled up,” Weidner said.
Commissioner Marlen Kraemer asked who was supervising the project.
“You are our project manager – you alluded you would be there at all times to watch,” Kraemer said. “Who is supervising when you are not here?”
According to Weidner the wells should be dug by Dec. 17.
“I have hopes of having it hooked up by the first of the year,” Weidner said.
Commissioner Terry Pinkelman reported the attendance was low at the “Taste of Christmas” event at the Corps of Discovery Welcome Center Dec. 3.
“The weather wasn’t good which kept people from coming,” Pinkelman said.
Bids can still be submitted on-line for the Silent Auction items until Dec. 23, according to Pinkelman.
The items can be viewed by going to the Welcome Center’s web site at www.corpsofdiscoverywelcomecenter.net.
McGregor reported the Northeast Nebraska Public Health Dept. has paid off the bank loan on the building that had been purchased and remodeled.
The Health Dept. received H1N1 grant funds of $271,000, McGregor said.
“The loan in the amount of $110,469 was paid off for the building and the remodeling,” McGregor said. “They paid it off and stopped the interest.”
