HARTINGTON— The Ryder Cup rivalry between Hartington Golf Club (HGC) and Rolling Hills Country Club (RHCC) added another memorable chapter on Sunday, Sept. 21, as the two sides met at Hartington Golf Club for the 18th edition of the competition.
Backed by strong play across all formats, Hartington secured a decisive 20.5–11.5 victory, moving ahead in the all-time series with a 10–8 advantage.
The morning Four Ball matches set the tone, with Hartington surging to an early lead. Gary Kuehn and Sam Anderson, Grant Howell and Ian Lange, and Corey Uldrich and Jason Morten all earned wins, while Alex Gade and Matt Sudbeck, Josh Morten and Matt Burbach, and Jason Dendinger and Turner Becker added more points to the HGC total.
RHCC tallied one victory behind Ted Bengston and Eric Abbenhaus, and the team of Lance Heine and Jamy McCoy halved with Adam McManigal and Ethan Pospisil.
Hartington carried a 6.5–1.5 cushion into the afternoon. The Alternate Shot session proved more competitive, as the teams split the eight matches.
RHCC earned victories from Rick Eisenhauer and Adam McManigal, Kevin Burns and Jason Gubbels, Quinn O’Brien and Nic Gilsdorf, and Joe West and Jon Baue. HGC answered with wins from Sam Anderson and Turner Becker, Matt Sudbeck and Lance Heine, Gary Kuehn and Corey Uldrich, and Grant Howell and Jamy McCoy. The session ended 4–4, keeping Hartington’s overall lead intact.
In the decisive Singles matches, Hartington’s depth proved too much. Victories from Jason Dendinger, Ian Lange, Lance Heine, Corey Uldrich, Turner Becker, Jason Morten, Matt Burbach, and Grant Howell helped HGC put the competition out of reach.
RHCC picked up wins from Ethan Pospisil, Quinn O’Brien, Rick Eisenhauer, and Adam McManigal, while four matches ended in halved results.
When the dust settled, Hartington sealed a commanding 20.5–11.5 triumph.
Several Hartington players turned in standout efforts. Corey Uldrich, Grant Howell, and Turner Becker each went undefeated on the weekend, anchoring the HGC lineup with clutch play in every format. Their consistent performances were instrumental in ensuring the Cup stayed in Hartington.
This year’s win pushes Hartington ahead in the all-time Ryder Cup tally, with HGC now leading 10–8 over Rolling Hills.
The event, rich with camaraderie and rivalry, continues to be a highlight of the local golf season.
“Every year this competition brings out the best in both teams,” Hartington co-captain Josh Morten said. “It’s about friendship, pride, and competition. Winning back the Cup makes it even sweeter.”
Hartington Golf Club will now look to defend its title when the series resumes next fall at Rolling Hills.
