FORDYCE — Claude A. Schulte, 84, Fordyce, died April 13, 2017, at the Eastern Nebraska Veterans Home, Bellevue.
Visitation and a Vigil service were Tuesday at the Wintz Funeral Home, Hartington, and will begin at 9:30 a.m., Wednesday at the church.
Mass of Christian Burial will be April 19, at 10 a.m., at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, Fordyce, with the Rev. Jim Keiter officiating.
Burial will be in St. John the Baptist Cemetery, Fordyce, with military honors provided by the Hartington VFW Post 5282 and the American Legion Riders.
Pallbearers will be David Carstensen, Michael Schulte, Donovan Schulte, Gary Schulte, Dale Schulte and Daniel Smith.
Claude was born Oct. 30, 1932, at Fordyce, to Arthur Herbert and Martha Leona (Lammers) Schulte. He grew up on a farm in the Fordyce area and attended St. John the Baptist Elementary School, District 35 High School for two years, Crofton Public High School for one year, and graduated from Holy Trinity High School in 1950. He then farmed with his family until serving in the Korean Conflict in the U.S. Army, Feb. 2, 1953-Dec. 2, 1954. After his discharge he returned to farming the family farm until 1995, when he suffered a brain hemorrhage. In 2002, Claude moved to the Veterans Home, first in Omaha and then in Bellevue.
Claude was a member of the St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, Fordyce; the Catholic Order of Foresters and the Hartington VFW Post 5283. He enjoyed playing cards and spending time with his family.
Claude is survived by two sisters, Yvonne Carstensen, Omaha, and Marie and Donald Kramer, Omaha; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Charles Schulte; and a brother-in-law, Robert Carstensen.
Memorials are preferred to St. John the Baptist Church, the Eastern Nebraska Veterans Home and the Hartington VFW Post 5283.
