HARTINGTON – The Lady Wildcats pulled out their first win of the season against Walthill with a score of 62-45. Sophie Noecker, Willa Scoville, and Abbe Morten all scored double digits in a commanding game where HNS outscored Walthill in every quarter.
Hartington-Newcastle got off to a slow start, trailing 7-1 in the first quarter, before the girls woke up and fought back.
Freshman Abbe Morten has emerged as a key part of the Lady Wildcat offense. Scoring 13 points against Walthill, she now averages over seven points per game, and is gaining confidence.
“Abbe had a very good game. She is a pretty good guard,” said first year head coach Marcus Messersmith. “She is solid, takes care of the ball, and any given night she can take over. She is a shooter and we have other girls that take the pressure off of her.”
Morten led the team from beyond the arc, draining two of her five attempts, and assisting on a third.
