Visitation and a Vigil service were Nov. 29 at St. Anne’s Catholic Church, Dixon.
Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m., Nov. 30, at St. Anne’s Catholic Church, with Rev. David Liewer and Rev. James F. McCluskey officiating.
Pallbearers will be Mike’s grandchildren, Sarah Kneifl, John Kneifl, Ben Kneifl, Jason Kneifl, Katie Olson, Kristin McDonald, Emily Holstein, Eddie Remm and Austin Remm.
Interment will be in Calvary Cemetery, Newcastle.
Arrangements are under the direction of Hasemann Funeral Home, Wayne.
Michael Peter “M.P.” Kneifl was born Oct. 19, 1923, on a farm near Newcastle, to John T. and Elizabeth A. (Ross) Kneifl. He was a graduate of Newcastle High School. Mike served in the United States Navy during World War II. He married Ursula Coughlin Nov. 12, 1947, in Laurel. In 1952, the couple moved to a farm near Dixon, where they lived all of their married life.
For 64 years, Mike was a very active member of St. Anne’s Catholic Church, Dixon. He had previously served on the Board of Production Credit Services for 24 years, various county school boards and church boards.
Mike and Ursula loved to travel nationally and internationally. His favorite hobby was farming.
Mike is survived by five children, Mary Kneifl, Laurel; Michael Kneifl Jr., Sioux Falls, S.D.; Patrick Kneifl, Yankton, S.D.; Anne (Edward) Remm, Omaha; and Ray (Sharon) Kneifl, Dixon; nine grandchildren, Sarah Kneifl, John Kneifl, Ben Kneifl, Jason Kneifl, Emily Holstein, Eddie Remm, Austin Remm, Kristin McDonald and Katie Olson; two great-grandchildren; sister-in-law, Phyllis Kneifl, Palmdale, Calif.; nieces and nephews.
Mike was preceded in death by his parents; wife of 66 years, Ursula, in 2014; an infant child; 11 brothers and sisters, Phillip Kneifl, William Kneifl, Elizabeth Calvert, Richard Kneifl, Harold Kneifl, Florence Travers, Cecelia Breslin, Esther Schulte, Patrick Kneifl, Marie Kneifl and MaryLou Duling.
Memorials may be directed in care of the family for later designation.
