HOWELLS — Cedar Catholic’s Ethan Koch got the new wrestling season off to a good start.
The junior 160-pound wrestler earned a win in Thursday’s season-opening dual at Scribner-Snyder. He then proved that he is someone to keep an eye on this season as he posted a 3-1 mark at Saturday’s Howells-Dodge invitational.
Koch lost in the final match against Jared Atkeson of St. Mary’s, a wrestler who medaled at the state tournament last year.
In his first two matches, Koch pinned both of his opponents in the first period. His third match came down to a 12-9 decision. Finally, he was pinned in the first period of the championship match by Atkeson. This leaves Koch with a 4-1 record so far on the season.
The Cedar Catholic team scored 20 total team points throughout the invitational. Koch earned 14 points for earning second place at 160, Eric Hoesing earned four points for placing sixth at 170, and Owen Lammers earned two points for placing eighth at 182.
