Obituary – Richard McCorkindale

ALLEN — Richard McCorkindale, 79, Allen, died Oct. 15, 2011, at Wynot.
Visitation will be 3-8 p.m., Oct. 19, with a prayer service at 7 p.m., in Thompson Chapel Funeral Home, Wakefield.
Services will be 10:30 a.m., Oct. 20, 2011 at the United Methodist Church, Allen, with Pastor Sheila Taylor officiating.
Burial will be in Pleasant Hill Cemetery, rural Allen.
Pallbearers will be Jack Hintz, Ed Eby, Mike Surber, Gene Twiford, Bill Young and Dan McCabe.

Richard Fay McCorkindale was born June 20, 1932, at Emerson, to Fay Wilton and Norma Owens McCorkindale. He graduated from Laurel High School. Richard married Lenora Ann Kiefer April 28, 1951. The couple farmed north of Laurel and also operated a motel in Laurel before moving to the farm northwest of Allen. Lenora died Dec. 8, 1976.
Richard enjoyed being with people, hunting, fishing, and being at his river cabin at Wynot.
Survivors include, son, Dennis McCorkindale, Martinsburg; daughter and son-in-law, Cindy and Marlin Kraemer, Allen, and a very special friend, Katie Hancock, Allen; grandchildren, Doug and Greta Kraemer, Allen; Michelle and Tracy Sachtjen, Wallas; David and Megan McCorkindale, Allen; and Casey (Schroeder) McCorkindale, Sioux City, Iowa; 10 great-grandchildren; and three brothers and their wives, John and Jean McCorkindale, Robert and Grandel McCorkindale, and Jim and Mary Rae McCorkindale, all of Laurel.
He was preceded in death by wife, Lenora; and son, Billy Dean McCorkindale.

    I was so saddened by the news of Dick’s death. It was a wonderful day when he stopped in Dubois to see me just a few months ago. We stayed in the cabin a few years ago. He touched my life and my two sons in a special. I will miss the big man!
