HARTINGTON — The Hartington Pony league baseball team moved to 5-0 with a pair of wins last week.
The local team earned a win over Wayne Tuesday and defeated Fordyce 7-4 Thursday.
The team was slated to play in South Sioux City Monday night.
Keenan Sudbeck, Tyler Loberg and Kellyn Dump paced the offense for the Hartington team.
Sudbeck blasted a three-run home run in the third inning to break the game open, giving Hartington a 4-1 lead.
Loberg connected on 2-3 from the plate with two RBI and earned a first-inning run. He also led the defense by throwing out two base runners at second base.
Dump scored twice, and had one RBI and two stolen bases.
The two teams battled evenly in the first frame, with neither able to plate any runners.
Hartington got on the board in the second frame when Loberg led off with a single, moved to second with a fielder’s choice and came home with Ross Hegge’s sacrifice RBI.
Fordyce knotted the score at 1-1 in their half of the inning when Eric Kruse singled then worked his way around the bases.
Sudbeck’s blast once again gave the Hartington Blue a lead in the third frame.
Fordyce plated two more runners in the third frame. Nick Uhing drew a walk and Ty Uhing moved him over with a single. A Cody Stappart sacrifice and a passed ball brought both home to make the score 4-3.
The Flyers knotted the score at 4-4 when Mathew Leise scored in the fourth inning, but Hartington took the lead for good in the fifth frame.
Dump led off the inning with a walk, then stole second and moved to third on a Frank Herbolsheimer fielder’s choice. He beat the throw to the plate to score on Loberg’s RBI single.
Hartington’s final at-bat started out with Reece Pedersen reaching base by being hit by a pitch. Steve Herbolsheimer’s single then moved him over. They both advanced when Trent Janssen walked to load the bases. Dump then drew a walk to bring Pedersen home. Loberg also drew a sixth-inning walk to bring Herbolsheimer in and give Hartington the 7-4 lead.
The Hartington defense shut out Fordyce over the final two frames to preserve the lead.
Keenan Sudbeck again came on in relief of Ross Hegge to earn the win. Cody Stappert suffered the loss for Fordyce.

Pat Wieseler earned the win in Hartington’s 6-0 win over Wayne June 10.
Wieseler struck out five batters in his four innings on the mound. Ross Hegge and Keenan Sudbeck both threw an inning in relief for Hartington.
The Hartington bats were led by Keenan Sudbeck, who went 2-3 at the plate and scored two runs with one RBI.
The Pony team took on South Sioux City Monday.
