Hartington 14s Take Title

CROFTON — The Hartington 14-and-under girls softball team walked away from the league tournament Sunday with the championship trophy.
Hartington defeated Fordyce 11-2 then knocked off Crofton 7-3 in second-round action.
The local team then played Crofton again in the title game, earning the 9-1 win.
Hartington is now 4-0 on the year.
Hartington got off to a quick start against Fordyce, building a 3-1 first-inning lead. Tracy Peitz, Kelsey Lentz and Hannah Schrempp all crossed the plate in the opening frame.

Fordyce earned a run when Courtney Eickhoff worked her way around the basepath.
Katie Savoy and Kendra Lammers scored in the second frame for Hartington to increase the lead to 5-1.
Peitz and Savoy again scored in the third inning, allowing Hartington to take a 7-1 advantage.
Four more Hartington runs in the fourth inning ended the contest, even though Dana Dickes was able to score for Fordyce in the inning.
Hartington got fourth-inning runs from Nancee Dendinger, Hannah Schrempp, Becky Burbach and Courtney Hochstein
Tracy Peitz earned the win on the mound.

Coach Peg Peitz’s team again got its bats going early in their second-round game with Crofton.
Hartington plated four first-inning runs to open the contest with a 4-0 lead. Hartington scored again in the second frame when Kelsey Lentz crossed the plate for her second run of the contest.
Kendra Lammers and Courtney Hochstein both scored in the third frame to give Hartington a big 7-0 advantage.
Peitz lost her shut out in the third frame when Crofton was able to plate three runners. That was all the maroon and gray was able to do in the contest, though as Hartington earned the win.

Hartington got off to a slow start in the title game, but it didn’t take long for the team to bounce back.

Neither team was able to plate any runners in the first inning, but Hartington’s offense exploded in the second frame to put five runs on the board. Hannah Schrempp, Nancee Dendinger, Becky Burbach, Courtney Hochstein and Katie Savoy all scored in the frame.
Kelsey Lentz and Kendra Lammers both came across the plate in the third frame for Hartington.

Jennifer Krausse and Morgan Steffen put up a pair of insurance runs for Hartington in the fifth inning.
