HARTINGTON — Hartington speedster Zach Bakke paced the Wildcats with three gold medals here last week.
Bakke cruised to wins in the 100- and 200-meter dashes and claimed top honors in the long jump, as well.
His efforts were not enough to garner a team title, though, as the Wildcats finished third in the meet.
Neligh-Oakdale defeated Bloomfield omfield 81-77 for the team title with Hartingtontington just one point back in third.
Hartington fared even better at the Wausa Invite later in the week. That meet was the team’s best outing of the year, said Coach Blair Kalin. Hartington took runner-up honors to Winside in that meet.
At the Hartington meet, Bakke’s winning time in the 100 was 10.69 seconds, which set a new school record. His first-place time in the 200 was 22.38, and his winning long jump was 22 feet, 1½ inches.
Neligh-Oakdale was led to the title by Mark Funk, who captured gold medals in the 800-meter run and the triple jump.
