LUVERNE Minn. — Jenneviva “Jennie” Peterson, 96, formerly of Laurel, died Jan. 21, 2008, at the Good Samaritan Society-Mary Jane Brown Home, Luverne, Minn.
Jenneviva was born to Carl and Otelia (Johnson) Magnuson April 20, 1911, south of Laurel, where she was raised and attended school. She married Evan Peterson Feb. 10, 1932, in Omaha.
He died Dec. 26, 1991. Following their marriage, they farmed in the Laurel area. In 1950, they moved to a farm near Flandreau, S.D., retiring in 1973 and moving to Pipestone, Minn. After Evan’s death, Jennie continued to live in Pipestone until February 1993, when she moved to Luverne, Minn. She became a resident of the Good Samaritan Society – Mary Jane Brown Home, Luverne, in March 2002.
Jennie loved gardening. She had a large vegetable garden, a separate garden just for strawberries, and numerous flowerbeds. Because of her large gardens, she enjoyed doing a lot of canning. She especially enjoyed raising African violets. She loved music, and played many songs by ear on her organ and piano. She was an exceptional cook, and was always complimented on her cooking.
She is survived by her three sons and spouses, LaVerle Carl and Clara Peterson, Tamuning, Guam; Burdell and Sharon Peterson, Sacramento, Calif.; and Berwyn Peterson, Sacramento, Calif.; eight grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and two brothers and wives, Wallace and Evonne Magnuson, Laurel, and Melvin Magnuson, Wayne; two sisters-in-law, Irene Magnuson, Norfolk, and Florence Michels, Seward; and several many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her son, Larry Peterson; her husband; her parents; two brothers, George and Glenn Magnuson; and four sisters, Elvira Johnson, Ethel Peterson, Evelina Johnson and Lucille Olson.
