Obituary – Esther M. Koch

PIERSON, Iowa — Esther M. Koch, 94, Pierson, died July 19, 2008, at Kingsley Nursing and Rehab Center, Kingsley, Iowa.
Visitation and a prayer service were July 21 at Rohde Funeral Home, Kingsley.
Funeral services were July 22 at Kingsley United Methodist Church, Kingsley.
Burial was in Greenwood Cemetery, Pierson, Iowa.


Esther Mae Forinash was born March 8, 1914, in Hartington, the daughter of Lafe and Viola (Walton) Forinash. She grew up in the Hartington area, graduating from high school in 1930. She married Leonard Koch Feb. 18, 1933, in Elk Point, S.D. After their marriage, Esther and Leonard farmed near Hartington until March 1945, when they moved to the Moville, Iowa, area until 1967. They then moved to a farm near Pierson, Iowa, where they resided until Esther entered the Kingsley Nursing and Rehab Center, Kinsley, Iowa, in November 2004. Esther’s husband, Leonard died September 1998.
Survivors include three sons and their wives, Carroll Dean and Wanda Koch, Moville, Iowa; Kenneth and Pat Koch, Hawarden, Iowa; and Loren and Sheryl Koch, Kingsley; two daughters and their husbands, Darlene Roling and Wendall, Rapid City, S.D., and DeEtte Peck and Neil, Sioux City, Iowa; a daughter-in-law, Mina Koch, Pierson, Iowa; 13 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren; eight great-great-grandchildren; and a sister-in-law, Albe Forinash, Hartington.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Leonard; a son, Bill, in July 2005; a great-granddaughter, Kylie Koch; a great-grandson, Derek Rahn; three brothers, Elmer and Harold, Emerson; and Louis, Hartington; and a sister, Evelyn Loftis, Laurel.
Memorials may be directed to Siouxland Hospice.
