HARTINGTON — Council members discussed street work that needs to be done on North Broadway and the drive going through Felber Park.
City Attorney Vanessa Gorden will check on the legalities and procedures for charging the cost of paving to land owners.
Mayor Bill Yates told council members he had recently driven through Felber Park.
“There is one spot that is bad,” said Yates.
Council members discussed fixing the holes, adding crushed rock to the side of the drive and work that needs to be done to correct the drainage problems.
Councilman Ed Bottolfsen said he had checked on the grass and fields at the Hartington Community Complex.
“I will need to patch some spots on the broad jump,” said Bottolfsen. “The baseball field at the park was mowed and looks good.”
Yates and the Council members reviewed the fees for the city auditorium.
“I had a call concerning the fees for using the city auditorium,” said Yates. “The whole council needs to know the policy and the fees.”
Fees for the city auditorium include the following: $35 for up to 50 people, for over 50 people the fee is $50. The fee is also $50 for open houses and graduations.
No fee is charged to the Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts, 4-H and Extension Office for use of the facility. There are certain groups, who use the facility more often, who are given a discount.
“There is a cost to the city to turn the electricity on along with the heat that is used,” said Councilman Tim Burbach. “This can be looked at when the budget is done – there is a chance the fees will go up down the road.”
In other action Monday, two appointments were made at the Hartington City Council meeting on Monday evening.
Mayor Yates appointed Pat Burbach and Scott McCaw to the Planning and Zoning Commission.
Council members decided there will be no change in the fees at the present time.
An application for a special liquor license for Holy Trinity and Cedar Catholic School to be used at the alumni banquet was approved.
Building permits that were approved included a deck for Robert and Julie Kastrup and a warehouse for Fay’s Furniture.
The City Attorney’s Office has been in contact with Alltel concerning an agreement that would allow the placement of an Alltel cellular antenna on the city water tower.
“Steve spoke to the representative – he does not anticipate any problems,” said Gorden. “April has just been a busy month for Alltel.”
An Arbor Day Proclamation, which was signed by the Mayor of Hartington, was read by Councilman Gary Kruse.
The Proclamation urges residents to take care of trees and also plant some trees.
