LAUREL — Walter Schutte, 94, Laurel, died Nov. 25, 2007 at the Hillcrest Care Center, Laurel
Visitation will be 3-8 p.m., with family present from 5-7 p.m., at Hasemann-Schumacher Funeral Home, Laurel.
Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m., Nov. 29, at United Lutheran Church, Laurel, with Rev. Brian Davidson officiating.
Burial will be in the Laurel Cemetery.
Honorary Pallbearers will be Walter and Ruby¹s grandchildren and special friends, Casey Brentlinger, Mike Kneifl, Paul Bose and Fellow Pool Players
Active Pallbearers will be Marlin Bose, Steve Schutte, David Schutte, Steve Hoblit, Tom Brennan and Joel White.
Walter Rudolph Schutte was born Feb. 8, 1913, to John and Anna (Suhr) Schutte on a farm near Waterbury. At the age of one, his family moved to a farm north of Dixon. Walter attended Dixon County school District #42, Clark Center, and graduated from Laurel High School. He married Ruby Brennan March 21, 1936, at Sioux City, Iowa. The couple farmed north of Dixon until moving to California during World War II where Walter was employed at an Aircraft Factory for a few years. The couple then farmed near Ponca, and later north of Dixon, moving to Laurel in 1977. Walter worked in maintenance at Hillcrest Care Center for five years.
He was a member of United Lutheran Church, the Laurel Lions Club, a 50-year member of the Masonic Lodge and served as a school board member in Dixon County.
Walter enjoyed farming, gardening, woodworking, carpentry, reading, playing cards, dancing, baseball, football, fishing (especially in Wyoming), billiards, his friends, neighbors, and spending time with his family.
Walter is survived by his wife, Ruby; two daughters and spouses, Annette and John Henry, Lincoln, and Cindy and Jake Keffeler, Omaha; a son-in-law, Erl Mortenson, Gillette, Wyo.; daughter-in-law, Sandy Schutte, Edgerton, Wyo.; nine grandchildren; seven step grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; several step great-grandchildren; one sister, Eileen Lindgren, Billings, Mont.; and one sister-in-law, Lois Brennan, Vermillion, S.D.;and many nieces and nephews.
Walter was preceded in death by his parents; two sons, Richard, in 1999, and Michael, in 2002; one daughter, Karen in 2005; one son-in-law, Bob Smith; one daughter-in-law, Roberta Schutte; eight brothers; four sisters; 10 sisters-in-law; and seven brothers-in-law.
