Obituary – Ray Gubbels

RANDOLPH — Ray V. Gubbels, 87, Randolph, died Oct. 26, 2007, at Osmond General Hospital, Osmond.
Visitation, with a rosary, was Oct. 28 at St. Frances Catholic Church, Randolph.
Funeral Services were Oct. 29 at St. Frances Catholic Church, Randolph, with Rev. John Andrews officiating.
Interment was at St. Frances Catholic Cemetery, Randolph, with military rites by Alvin Kessler Post #5545 and American Legion Post #113, Randolph.
Johnson Funeral Home, Randolph, was in charge of arrangements

Pallbearers were grandsons, Brian Gubbels, Ray Gubbels, Adam Gubbels, Andy Haas, Kendall Gubbels, Dan Haas, Steven Gubbels and Michael Gubbels.
Honorary pallbearers were all of Ray’s grandchildren and great-grandchildren”
Ray was born Oct. 15, 1920, to John W. and Catherine (Reding) Gubbels. He attended St. Frances Catholic School, Randolph. Ray entered the United States Army April 20, 1945, and was discharged Dec. 6, 1946. He served the 46th Engineer Construction Battalion during the reconstruction of Japan. He married Lorita Lange Nov. 25, 1946, at St. Frances Catholic Church, Randolph.
Ray farmed near Randolph, except for his time in the service, and enjoyed tinkering and fixing things on and around the farm.
He was a member of St. Frances Catholic Church, Randolph, and a member of the Catholic Order of Foresters.
Ray is survived by his wife of 60 years, Lorita Gubbels, Randolph; six children and their spouses, Robert and Gloria Gubbels, Streator, Ill.; Howard and Eileen Gubbels, Randolph; Darrell and Betsy Gubbels, Franktown, Colo.; Dale and Mary Gubbels, Pappillion; Kevin and Lisa Gubbels, Randolph; Jeanne and David Haas, Yankton, S.D.; 27 grandchildren; and 20 great-grandchildren.
He is preceded in death by his parents; three grandchildren, in infancy; four brothers, Tony, Aloie, Leonard and Delbert, and one sister, Velna Leiting.
