Obituary – Leo Kastrup

ELK POINT, S.D. — Leo R. Kastrup, 70, Elk Point, S.D., died Nov. 22, 2007, at his residence.
Visitation, with a prayer service at the church, was Nov. 25.
Memorial services were Nov. 26 at Immanuel Lutheran Church, Elk Point, with the Rev. Jarad Rakness officiating.
Burial of the ashes was in Elk Point Cemetery.


Arrangements were under the direction of Hansen Funeral Home, Vermillion, S.D.
Leo was born June 5, 1937, to Edmund and Karen (Andersen) Kastrup, on their farm near Laurel. He attended elementary grades at Laurel Public School and graduated from Laurel High School in 1955. He enlisted in the U.S. Navy in June 1955 and was honorably discharged in June 1958. Upon completion of his military services, he returned to Laurel.
He married Bonna Del Stone Feb. 14, 1959, at Logan Center, E.U.B., Church, rural Laurel. The family resided in Laurel until 1969, when they moved to Elk Point. He was employed with the Union County Highway Department and retired in 2002 as county highway superintendent.
He was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church, Elk Point. He enjoyed his family, reading, gardening, and was an avid Nebraska Cornhuskers football fan.
Survivors include his wife, Bonna Del, Elk Point, S.D.; two sons and wives, Tim and Kristin, Blair, and Troy and Karla, Milbank, S.D.; a daughter and husband, Kristy and Jon Sogn, Sioux Falls, S.D.; eight grandchildren, Kristan, Alysha, Corinne, Claire and Hayley Kastrup and Nicholle, Andrew and Natalie Sogn; three brothers, Thork, Ruskin; Borge and his wife, Carol, Laurel; and Bob and wife, Julie, Hartington; two sisters, Elsie Nielsen, Blair, and Ruth and husband, Bob Kenaley, LeMars, Iowa; a sister-in-law, Mable Kastrup; and several nieces, nephews and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Edmund and Karen Kastrup; grandparents; an infant sister, Ruth Carla; brothers, Kai, and Carlo and his wife, Mildred; a sister-in-law, Lorraine Kastrup; and a brother-in-law, Lloyd Nielsen.
