NECC building named after Arlo Wirth

NORFOLK — A long-time member of the Northeast Community College Board of Governors will be posthumously honored with the dedication of the former Utility Line Building on campus in his name.
The public is invited to a special ceremony to mark the change in name to the Arlo Wirth Building.  The ceremony will take place on Thursday, January 10, at 4:30 p.m., following the regular monthly meeting of the Northeast Board of Governors.

The late Arlo Wirth, Hartington, began his service to the Board of Governors in 1970.  During his 27 years on the Board, he was instrumental in the formation of Northeast Community College.  The college saw continuous growth in enrollment, added several technical programs of study, and expanded the liberal arts and science programs while Wirth was on the Board.
In addition, 16 buildings were constructed on the campus during Wirth’s years of service, including the building to be renamed after him.
Built in 1974, it was originally named the Technology Building and later the name was changed to the Utility Line building.
It only fits that Wirth is honored this way, NECC officials said.
“This is a fitting tribute to a man who had a keen interest in this institution and saw its great growth during his service here,” said Dr. Bill Path, president of Northeast Community College.  “It is hard to imagine anyone more dedicated to this college than Arlo Wirth. He provided invaluable service during his many years on our Board of Governors.”
